Kibble & Cover

About Kibble & Cover

How we research, rank and stay independent. Last updated 17 October 2026.

What we do

Kibble & Cover helps pet owners in the US and Canada find a pet insurance plan that fits their dog or cat. We track 17 US insurers and 10 Canadian insurers, turn their policy documents into plain-language facts, and rank them against what matters to you. There are no accounts and nothing to sign up for.

Who's behind it

Hi, I'm Chris. I built Kibble & Cover. At home I share my space with two bunnies, Luffy and Pika, and a very handsome golden retriever named Aspen.

When I went looking for pet insurance, I spent far more time than I expected digging through policy documents, fine print and comparison sites. Plans that looked alike turned out to differ in the details that matter most: limits, exam fees, waiting periods and what happens when your pet has had a problem before. So I built the tool I wished I had, so other pet owners don't have to waste that time and can protect their companions with confidence.

How we make money: we don't

No insurer pays us. We take no commissions, referral fees or affiliate payments, sell no ads or paid placements, and don't sell or share visitor data. Links to insurers are plain links. We aren't owned by, or affiliated with, any insurer, broker or comparison site. If that ever changes, this page will say so.

How we research

  • Every plan fact (reimbursement options, limits, deductibles, waiting periods, exam fees, age limits, where it's sold) is checked field-by-field against the insurer's own policy-wording PDFs and official site.
  • Where a fact can only be confirmed from a secondary source, the plan carries an explicit caveat instead of a guess.
  • We never show a made-up price. Insurers don't publish fixed price tables, so plans are grouped as budget, mid-range or premium unless a verified, sourced example exists.
  • Vet cost ranges are compiled from insurer and veterinary cost guides and dated, because they drift over time.
  • Insurer, comparison and guide pages show when their data was last reviewed. Current reviews: United States October 16, 2026, Canada May 19, 2026.

How rankings are made

The quiz, the β€œbest for” lists and the head-to-head comparisons all use the same plan data and the same scoring rules. No insurer can be boosted by hand. The full method and every source document are published: US methodology Β· Canada methodology.

Corrections

Insurers change their plans. If something here is out of date or wrong, email velvetloop.admin [at] gmail.com with a link to the insurer's source. We check it against the policy documents, fix the data, and update the review date.

What we're not

We aren't a licensed insurance agent or broker, we don't sell policies, and nothing here is financial or veterinary advice. Always confirm coverage and get a live quote from the insurer before you buy. See also Privacy & contact.
